  - Initial treatment of Gram-negative bacterial infection
  - Initial treatment of the causative organism (combined with penicillin or cephalosporin drugs)
  - Fatal infection by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (combined with carbenicillin)
  - Endocarditis (combined with penicillin drugs)
